Indications for use of Vytorin

Vytorin (ezetimibe/simvastatin) is used to lower cholesterol in the blood. Vytorin helps reduce the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver, as well as reduce the risk of atherosclerosis.

Simvastatin inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. As a result, the concentration of cholesterol and lipoproteins in the blood will be lower (cholesterol - by 30-45%, low density lipoproteins - by 40-60%, triglycerides - by 15-33%, apolipoprotein B100 by 35-50%). In addition, simvastatin increases the concentration of high density lipoproteins and apolipoprotein A. Simvastatin minimizes the risk of vascular complications of coronary heart disease, reduces the risk of myocardial infarction.

Ezetimibe blocks the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine. It reduces the absorption of cholesterol in the intestine by 54% within 2 weeks. This agent does not affect the absorption of triglycerides, fatty acids, progesterone, ethinyl estradiol, vitamins A and D.

Vytorin is used to treat primary hypercholesterolemia in patients with an increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis. It is also used for the prevention of stroke and myocardial infarction (in order to avoid revascularization procedures).

When Vytorin is contraindicated

Care should be taken in case of hepatitis (active phase), individual intolerance. Do not use in children under 5 years of age.

Use carefully in patients with severe renal failure, liver disease, alcohol abuse. Use with caution in children under 12 years of age.

I convinced myself that you can have problems with your cholesterol not just because you are having a bad diet. I always tried to eat clean and healthy food but almost nothing changed so I know now that my problems with cholesterol are not because of a bad diet. All my family has experienced the same things during a period of time. I can certainly say that in our family it is running high cholesterol syndrome. I never knew that cholesterol could be a genetic problem but in fact it is. I started to cure my problem 15 years ago when I started to use Lipitor and besides the negative effects and all kind of strange diseases it created me, it never lowered my cholesterol more than 280. After this negative experience I found out about Vytorin and at the beginning I was sure that it will be as Lipitor. The fact is that I used Vytorin for more than 6 years now and without any side effects. Besides all of that this drug lowered my cholesterol down to 170. It was a new record to me and I really was very glad that I found it. Some months ago I found out that the government classified vytorin as one of those drugs that is not effective and that it’s full of different side effects. I don’t know why and how did they found out something like this but the fact is that after this I found this drug dropped from my Medicare plan. Honestly it was a tragedy for me. Now I’m scared that my cholesterol level will raise again and that I’ll have to start to search something new. I’m scared and I really don’t want to change my drug. I’m scared to not have side effects or to develop other diseases. I’m in a awful situation, disappointed and angry about this decision.

I am taking vytorin 10/80 mg for about 2 years and it provides me with good effects. In less than 2 months after I have started to take this medication my overall cholesterol numbers showed 130, my LDL’s number was 63, the HDL’s number was 52 and my triglyceride was 81. I have been on other medications as well but none of them has ever made my numbers to be this low. About half a year later it was all still low and in good range. I was very happy about that. However, about one year and a couple of months later my cholesterol has grown a little bit to 153, triglycerides were 78, LDL’s were 77 and my HDL’s were 57. Now it still seems to be working for me very good so far but I don’t know how it is going to be in future. As for now and since I have taken this medication I was and I am still feeling very good. much better than before while being on other medications. Side effects were unnoticed in all this time. So far, I can doubtless recommend vytorin drug.

this is an incredibly helpful drug and if somebody don’t believe it then you should try it yourself! For many years my cholesterol numbers were as high as 300 and sometimes even more. My doctor and I have tried “natural” way to reduce it. this means a good diet from a good nutritionist and regular exercise. Months later my cholesterol number was unchanged and I was feeling in the exact same way. After this my doctor and I have decided that trying a medication is my only option left. This was about 5 years ago. I have tried 3 different medications (I don’t remember their brand names as it was long time ago). One of these 3 gave me severe side effects so I had to stop it. two others left did lower my count but there was such a small change that it really didn’t matter. My 4th lucky medication was Vytorin. My dr asked me if I want to try but I haven’t had anything else to do. As I remember, I was on this medication for three months or even a little less and then I was having my usual schedule to check my blood work. I remember very well that when the dr announced the results I was shocked. He said that my HDL number was 75 and my LDL number was below 100. This was the first time I’ve had such results. Now, I am on vytorin for about 5 years and I’m never worried about side effects or my cholesterol. Yes, I’m still trying to eat healthy food but when I’m not, nothing bad happens. I don’t read any good labels as I was doing before and I don’t worry as I was doing before. My life has become easier thanks to it.

I’m now currently on this medication due to my high cholesterol levels and it seems to be a good drug but I’m really worried about side effects I am experiencing. It is doing a great job in lowering my cholesterol levels – I am now having the lowest level I have ever had but the muscle pains, weakness and leg cramps are very disturbing. I’m having severe pains if I walk a longer distance and now I’m forced to rest for a while until I am able to walk back again. I don’t know if I can stand these side effects longer. I would want to know another medication that would work so well for my cholesterol but without side effects. I’m trying to search for such a drug but until then I’m going to be on this one. Or until I won’t resist the side effects anymore.

I'm 42, mother of 3 and have been recently diagnosed with diabetes type II due to my obesity. I've been always been "round", since i remember myself, i was eating something. I come from an hispanic family, and complex meal is our tradition. My doctor put me on a low-fat diet, sport regime, and prescribed vytorin to lower my cholesterol levels. I must say i feel much better since taking the medicine. I feel i got more energy, breathing is easier. I've dropped 20 pounds, my bloods exams came in better. Vytorin helps me keep bad cholesterol under control if i take the doses regularly and watch on what i eat.
